· It can be a leisure time activity.


· One can be exposed to various kind of writing as this can improve their vocabulary and the way people communicate.


· Reading gives you something to talk about. You will always have something to talk about.You can discuss various plots in the novels you read with your friends. The possibilities of sharing are endless.Reading is inexpensive. For outdoor entertainment,we spend a lot of money and the enjoyment will last only for a few hours. But if we use that money to buy a really good novel,then the satisfaction achieved through reading the book is priceless.



· People get hook up on reading causing neglecting of some other important things.
E.G. Students neglecting studies or adults forgetting their practical chores.

· Some people find novel reading a mean of escape from reality. This has other dangers too. Too much relapse into fantasy may destroy one’s ability to face facts.

Political/Psychological

· Stimulates imagination and creativity.



· Allows us to explore new possibilities by thinking out of the box.Builds self-esteem. By reading more books,you become better informed and more of an expert on the topics you have read about. This expertise translates into higher self-esteem.




· A really bad novel is always a waste of time.



· For someone who is intellect,they will encounter the following problems. For example: unreality in characterization and situation,poor construction,concentration on sex and violence for the sake of it,bad sentence construction,boring approach,expletives of bad language and a biased attitude towards people.



· Some novels may contain strong political views which may lead to conflicts in the country.

Economic/Environmental/

Education



· Reading opens one’s mind to different prose and styles of languages as well as new vocabulary.



· One can also learn to communicate in new ways which are more often literate.



· Reading books takes brain power and improves concentration and focus. It requires you to focus on what you are reading for long periods. Unlike magazines and internet posts that might contain small chunks o information, books tell the whole story. Since you must concentrate in order to read, you will get better at concentrating.Reading also improves your vocabulary. In school,we learn how to infer the meaning of one word by reading the context of the other words in the sentence,=. By reading books, you get the same benefit. While reading challenging books, you will find yourself exposed to many new words.

It is not worthwhile doing as there is nothing that can be gained from reading a novel and at the same time it does not increases one’s general knowledge.

Race/Religion

The book “The Da Vinci Code” might help those who are in desperate need to get some support for their challenged beliefs.

On the other hand, it does not convince an inquisitive mind searching for answers.

Media

· Reading gives much more control over information we receive.
It requires far more mental work to ‘make sense’ of the words on a page than the images on the screen.



· Media cannot have the depth and amount of content that a book can.Reading is an active mental process. Unlike the television,books make you think more and become smarter.

Media conveys things that novels cannot but the price you pay is that it is subject to the directors interpretation and not yours.
